Doing our bit for the environment, the Christopher Hyde Sales team joined @berichmonduk to paddle against plastic pollution on Thursday 22nd June. Our Sales Manager, Natasha Naess along with 79 other participants from local community groups, businesses and residents set off from Kew Bridge to River Lane, Petersham on paddle boards collecting plastic from the water and riverbank.
"This is something I am passionate about, highlighting the problem of plastic pollution in our waterways", said Natasha.
She continued by saying; "clearing up plastic waste is a quick fix - we see the effects immediately and feel better for it. Sadly, clean ups like these do nothing to reduce the underlying problem of disposable plastic packaging, however it is definitely a good way to raise awareness of plastic pollution and appreciate that the problem exists. Through first-hand experience of getting dirty and picking it up gets you thinking about how to make changes to our lives and consumer behaviour in order to have a long lasting impact. Perhaps being more aware of what products we use and purchase along with being mindful of the packaging these products come in."
Social responsibility is very important to Christopher Hyde and being part of an community event like this gave the team the opportunity to contribute to a cleaner environment. A total of 100kg of waste was collected all of which will be used to generate green energy - nothing will go to a landfill.
